Yes, it’s been 6 months since my last post and podcast. I really do want to do a podcast, just haven’t found the motivation to do it. I recently obtained a ZOOM recorded from my great friend Emmitt, and i’ve been using that to record some karaoke. Haven’t used it for a podcast yet, but I know it will work with it. Just need to put things together and do it. It’s crazy to think that March of 2025 will be 20 years since I did my first podcast, so i’d like to get some momentum going before hitting that landmark. We’ll see. Hopefully some people are out there cheering me on to hit that 20 year mark!

Podcasting, is it really worth it?
This year, podcasting is 10 years old. I started in March of the next year, shortly after my son’s 7th birthday. I’ve seen a lot of stuff in these 10 years, and the last year or so i’ve been asking myself: “Is it really worth it?” Today as I stand at the crossroads of either continuing doing an occasional podcast, committing to a regular podcast as I once did, or just giving up completely on podcasting – I keep asking myself that same question. In the past 10 years, podcasting has gone from the new medium where you could “QYJ” or Quit Your Job, to where big corporations are “blocking” out the small indie podcasts who rarely get noticed.
My podcast is probably one of those indie podcasts which never got noticed. Sure, I probably could have promoted a hell of a lot more, got my name out there more, and busted my butt to get noticed like other podcasts did – but I felt that a music podcast wasn’t one which was going to go anywhere in the long run. My podcast has a lot of history though, i’ve interviewed bands/musicians that I never could have imagined, and also interviewed some lesser known artists, some who are no longer making music, and some who are still putting out great music today. Did they get a boost because they were on my podcast? Who knows. I don’t think they did, or I could have noticed more listeners. Which brings me to my next point, loyal listeners…
Listeners seem to want to be entertained, but as soon as you bore them, they move on. Sure, there are some loyal individuals out there, but not enough to make a small indie podcast into one that gets noticed. So what does one do to get more listeners? Again, the promotion machine needs to start up, work your butt off, and get noticed – you almost need to have a promotion budget to jump high enough to get over the big corporate podcasts. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy.
So where do I go from here? Do I continue? Do I try to make the climb up the podcasting mountain, but always be fearing that I’ll never make it to the heights I would like to reach? I’ve got a lot of thinking to do.
I may sound jaded at the moment, nearly 10 years of podcasting, of which I had about 4 years of live internet radio show experience – but still feel like I have not accomplished much at all. You’d probably be right, spent lots of money with the dream of an internet radio station making it big, only to realize that there really are very few loyal listeners to an internet radio station. In fact, the common public is still too attached to the corporate FM radio, it will take some “next big thing” comes along to pull people away from FM radio.
Podcasting is still extremely niche, even though there are easy ways to listen to it – people don’t want to change. Hell, the majority of my family and friends probably hasn’t listened to more than one or two of my podcasts – and I have over 500 episodes. Why is this? Because they’re still in the comfort of their FM world, not willing to venture into the “unknown” in fear they might miss out…
Again, these are my opinions – you’re welcome to share yours with me. I’m still thinking what my next steps are, each day I go another way – so might not make up my mind until it actually is my 10 year anniversary!! No worries though, i’ll keep putting out the 6-10 minute podcasts in the meantime, that is unless I decide to give that up too.. time will tell!!
Thanks for reading this far, again feel free to share your opinions with me.

Still here, check out my live show! – TapDetroit.com – Mondays!
Yes, i’m still here, just been busy!! I do a LIVE show every week from the studio now in Detroit, it’s a different dynamic since i’m not doing my show from the basement by myself! You should listen! Here’s what’s on this week’s show: Monday’s Zaldor’s World LIVE on TapDetroit.com features an artist who’s been on Zaldor’s World twice previously with Telling Trixie and Derek and The Darling, but today he returns as a solo artist – Derek Nicoletto! He will be calling in during the 2nd hour to talk about his new album, Kind Ghosts, which is set to release on July 26th, 2011.
Also in studio for the entire show will be my good friend and partner in karaoke crime, Logan. He has quite a musical history, so we’ll be talking about his past, and his future as well.
As always, feel free to call in to the show to ask questions to Derek or Logan, or to bring up a topic! Join us in the chat room too, we’ll be happy to take questions there!Watch Full Movie Online Streaming Online and Download
Mondays, 7pm-10pm ET – Zaldor’s World LIVE, right here on TapDetroit.com – Internet Radio, Detroit Style!
Thanks for installing the Bottom of every post plugin by Corey Salzano. Contact me if you need custom WordPress plugins or website design.
Episode coming – maybe, but check this out!
OK, i’ve been slacking bad since NaPodPoMo, only have done 1 episode, I need to get an annual x-mas episode out, but not sure if it’ll happen… it might..
Anyways, the reason for this post is – remember Derek Nicoletto from Derek & The Darling (interview in episode 332) and Telling on Trixie (interview in episode 228)? Well, he’s decided on going it solo and is using Kickstarter to fund his solo album “Kind Ghosts”! I think it’s a worthy project, so I pledged – and I’m encouraging all my listeners to do the same if they dig his music!
Here’s the reworked video of ‘Hustler with a Rescue Plan’ and the link to his page on Kickstarter!!
Olin, Olin, where for are thou Olin Ezra?
The search for Olin Ezra continues – the latest post on Detroit Rock Review holds more clues… Hopefully Olin will turn up soon and provide answers to his mysterious disappearance…

Seven things you may not know about me!
I woke up this morning, New Years Day, and noticed that I was tagged by my childhood friend, Terry Bean, for a MEME!
So I thought I’d take this time to tell you Seven Things About Me that you may not know. But first, the rules:
Here are the rules for my fellow bloggers:
- Link your original tagger(s), and list these rules on your blog.
- Share seven facts about yourself in the post – some random, some weird.
- Tag seven people at the end of your post by leaving their names and the links to their blogs.
- Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment on their blogs and/or Twitter.
Now on the the seven things:
1) I really am not a big sports fan. Yes, I follow the Detroit Red Wings, and do enjoy going to a game occasionally – but it’s not something I feel I must do every possible moment.
2) I’ve been a computer nerd/geek since my very first video game system, Atari 2600, back in 1977. My first computer was a Vic-20, then Commodore 64, and I fought hard never to buy a IBM PC, but finally broke down and bought a 286 around 1991. Then I wondered what took me so long!
3) Although my surroundings don’t show it, I really do like to be clean and organized. Something i’m working on doing better in 2009.
4) I have very little knowledge of my family tree on my father’s side. After he passed away, I had little to no contact with anyone that is related to that side of my family. Someday I would like to find out if there are any living relatives on that side of my family.
5) I really don’t ask for help until the last possible minute. I really would rather do things on my own and i’m pretty stubborn about it.
6) The person I am today is vastly different than the person I was 10 or more years ago. I used to be very shy up until I was about 30 years old, and I made many changes since my 30th birthday to help reduce that. However, I still fall back into my shyness on occasion.
7) I usually don’t participate in these sort of MEMEs, but Terry is a childhood friend that I am glad i’m still in touch with. Back in my Blog hey-day in the early 2000’s I used to participate much more, maybe i’ll start it again though in 2009, who knows!!
Seven people I tag for this MEME: Aaron Bates (The Big Show), Matt (Redboy podcast), Mike (Most People Are DJs), Jim (Hello From Michigan), Derek Coward (Deliberate Noise), Jack (WanderRadio), Matt (Digital Detroit Radio)
I’m nominated for a Podcast Peer award!
Yes, that’s right – i’m nominated in the Fall 2008 podcast peer awards! I’m in the ‘Best Music Podcast’ and i’m also running against other great music podcasts (some of which are my fellow members in AMP!) – so it’s going to be close!
I’ve never been nominated before – so i’m excited!
If you’re a podcaster, and listen to my show – please register on the site and vote!
NOTE: Voting Ends August 16th!!

Returned from camping!
Camping was a blast – you can see pictures here at my flickr page, Trent did a great job with his first time on the river alone in a kayak!
We did have a little rain on Saturday, but all in all it was a great time. Lots of fun, lots of friends, and lots of memories.
You’re welcome to check out the live page, there are some recordings there that I did while at the camp site – I even did a mini-co-host with Joe from The Next Big Thing on Bounce Radio for a little bit. It was pretty cool to be doing a live stream on Bounce from camp! Other streaming highlights were with Nick of Hoo Hoo Nick where he was singing and playing his guitar – as well as cooking some eggs while I was sitting at the picnic table! Very cool having the technology at the campground to do all that! Of course, lets not forget the skype call I did with my friend James from Minutes After Midnight – he was in Mongolia, and I was in Michigan! He was checking out the river, while I saw outside his hotel window at the capital of Mongolia! Wow.
But, it’s time to return to reality now. Work calls, the BounceRadio shows call, karaoke hosting calls, and of course both podcasts call. It’s all worth it.
I’ve got a lot of stuff ahead of me, quite a few interviews are still in need of editing – and a few are on the horizon. This is what i love to do – and I have no intention of stopping!!
Stay posted everyone, the future is before us – and it’s going to be great!

Hope to put out a show this weekend – but don’t forget to check out the live streaming Karaoke tonight!
