Very nice to hear “Reaction” by Whitestar on your show. I really like that song.

You mentioned on this show that your car is from 1994. So is mine! I am in California now, but, I moved here from Illinois. I remember how difficult it can be to try and get an older car to run in the cold, frozen, winter. Good luck with that! Stay warm!

Kay has a spectacular voice!

I enjoyed the song by Candy Rose. The song by Stars Go Dim was so heartbreakingly beautiful that I listened to it three times. I might have to include them on my Inside My Head podcast sometime.

You said something in this show about “slowing down” after NaPodPoMo ends. As someone who has done NaPodPoMo three years in a row, I can assure you that it is perfectly normal and reasonable to take a short break after November ends. Some people take a week or two, and some people skip the entire Month of December, and start again in January. Do whatever works for you. We (fellow NaPodPoMo podcasters) totally understand!

Also, I really liked the songs you played on this episode.

Lol thanks for the feature. So close on the age, but it’s 20. Matter of fact, with this monstrous facial hair, I’ve got people at work calling me 35, 40, Santa, Grizzly Adams, Homeless… lol yeah it’s not pretty. Next up is Chewbacca…

The song I sent you is more-less a good representative of the sound I’m aiming for in the second release. Good stuff. I’ve got three or four absolutely kick-ass tracks that are ready for the album.

About more live performances, I went to Trixie’s cafe recently to see The Garden Party and happen to glance over at a piano! I’m also throwing around the idea of maybe using The Garden Party as a temp band. Lol might not be as hard to accomplish as you think. The lead singer happens to be my 10th grade English teacher.

I wish that I had been able to stay for the whole thing, but almost as soon as I got there, I had a blinding headache. If migraines are anything like the thing I had, I feel sorry for anyone who gets them on a regular basis.

My favorite part (of the time that I was there) was seeing all of my Detroit Podcasting friends. I didn’t realize how much I missed you guys until you were all right there.

I completely agree with Lockjaw. However, I think that artists should know all this going in. I thought Justin Lanning was great, and he definitely belongs in the spotlight. It’s up to him whether he begins to define himself through his music [which I believe he's already done], or through his popularity and interviews. Of course he’s going to use the CD to promote concerts. Around 1995, that’s when that change started. [And I'm sort of ashamed to say it happened within the country music industry.] So no, it hasn’t always been that way, but it is that way now. That’s why people say “If you don’t like them, don’t get the CD.” Which is completely pointless, because they use the money to fuel the trips [in all the cases I know of]. Anyway, Justin rocked. He’s a truly talented artist, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from Zandor.

I have to take issue with one thing Justin said. He said that CDs have always been there primarily as promotional material for live shows. Although that may be true now, it hasn’t always been the case. I guess if you’re strictly talking CD sales, it may be, but before CDs we had LPs, 45s, cassettes, 8 tracks, and to some extent, even reel-to-reel, and cheap concerts. Concerts were primarily promotional tools to drive record sales. Consider this: In 1980, I paid $10.00 to see Cheap Trick, Molly Hatchett, and two other headliners in the same show. While it’s true that Molly Hatchett and the other two bands had probably peaked a year or two prior, all four bands had released albums within the previous year. That boils down to $2.50 per band, and albums had been selling at $6.99, but with the release of Steely Dan’s Aja, they went to $7.99. Later that same year I paid $10 to see Blue Oyster Cult & Black Sabbath, both with recent album releases. AND I didn’t have to pay a dime for parking! And a friggin’ t-shirt was about $8. Today, a CD typically sells for, oh, let’s call it $15 for argument’s sake. It’s in that ballpark anyway. And how much are concert tickets? Well, Sunday I paid $40 for nosebleed obstructed view tickets for Rob Zombie and Ozzy Osbourne, plus another ten for parking. A t-shirt was a whopping $35. So things have definitely made a turn, and I think it’s a turn for the worse. But look at the record companies. The bands make hardly anything from record sales and must rely heavily on gate receipts to make any money. Just my two bits worth.

Yep, definitely with you on that one. The ‘get-up-and-go’ part is certainly the hardest for me too. In fact, I really can’t remember the last time I did an AM weight training session – they all happen in the evening when my mind’s had a chance to wake up!
The ‘addiction’ part of a weight training exercises and cardio sure does feel good though, doesn’t it?! All those endorphins and serotonin coarsing through the veins is a pretty enjoyable after-effect!

Whoa you’re into NIN?
yeah ‘the fragile’ is pretty fucking brilliant as far as depressing music goes, ‘the great below’ is one of my favourite songs on the disc, pretty awesome. love it’s depth, and it’s so sad even though it’s so quiet .. did i tell you trent reznor makes bloody good instrumentals as well? i was really impressed by the ones on CD1, esp ‘pilgrimage’ .. other songs like ‘the wretched’ were grea, i enjoyed ‘the fragile’ even though CD2 seemed disconnected and didn’t flow on as much as CD1, with wierd songs like ‘ripe [with decay]‘. anyway gtg , cya, have fun with NIN.

You couldn’t have asked for better weather to enjoy the good company of friends both old and new. It rained before most of us got there, and rained after most of us left, but avoided us otherwise…

There were many memorable musical moments (lol) during the weekend, and you really proved that he’s got the electronics part down, Les. Especially considering that you only get to experiment with different setups once each year! The location of the control-booth/picnic table was perfect for seeing security cruise in our general direction…it’s incredible that they didn’t once ask us to stop playing on Saturday night!

The Canoe Jam never fails to offer a weekend of memories and fun in a unique environment. I thought that this was one of our best years, and we learn with each passing year how to improve the experience. I truly believe that next year will top them all so far, but it won’t be an easy feat!

Thanks to all who joined us this year for making it so fun, and I hope every last one of you returns next year!

ARGHHHH!!!!! I signed up too, and can’t even do a mic test, or any recording! I record on my computer all the time so have no idea what is going on. I tried KSolo about a month ago and it was working then, but the vocal quality was terrible. This motivated me to purchase a Griffin iMic which now gives me awesome quality recording normally with the software I use… but I don’t think KSolo likes my iMic! Wahh.

I’ve contacted KSolo with details of the problem so hopefully they can help. In the meantime Marco – I’m interested in checking out your site (going after I submit this!!) It will be great to get to know others involved and yeah, get KSolo to make the site better in some ways… Like let me do some recording darnit!!!!!!!!!

Definitely like the karaoke podcasts…but the sound on this one was a bit wonky, mostly differences when you’re talking (quieter) and when the music was playing (loud, on the Mr. Brownstone one I think my ears began bleeding) just sayin’

I did that little quiz and I am green….

GREEN:
At work or in school: I work best by myself. I like to focus on my ideas until my desire for understanding is satisfied. I am easily bored if the subject holds no interest to me. Sometimes, it is hard for me to set priorities because so many things are of interest.
With friends: I may seem reserved. Although my thoughts and feelings run deep, I am uneasy with frequent displays of emotion. I enjoy people who are interesting and of high integrity.
With family: I am probably seen as a loner because I like a lot of private time to think. Sometimes, I find family activities boring and have difficulty following family rules that don’t make sense to me. I show love by spending time with my family and sharing ideas and interests.
